The WAFF 2012 is tonight, 30th of March at 8pm. (Doors at 7pm) in Vicar Street.
I don’t know how many of you attended last years Wee Adventure Film Festival but if this years is anything like the last it is well worth a look. Although production quality on some of the entrants could have done with a bit of a polish, they still managed to get you psyched on the feeling of adventure and exploring the unknown. Films last year covered all areas from a snow covered Wicklow to Aussie bikers breaking themselves. This years offering look to top that. The event is tonight and tickets can be bought at the door. I would recommend attending and who knows? You may become inspired and it’ll be your film that… Continue Reading...
Sleeping at High Altitude
The human body was not made to live at 18,000 feet. Oxygen is so scarce at that altitude that few plants or animals can live. For the climber the thin air fogs the mind, makes small actions arduous and keeps cuts and infections from healing. Even the most sedentary activity of all, sleeping, is severely disturbed in this alien environment.
Due to the wind, cold or a smelly tent companion and long day climbing, many people don’t sleep very well at high altitude. In my experience I would have vivid dreams, feelings of being suffocated and normally wake feeling un-refreshed. No Compressors Here
We’ve had a number of requests for bolting equipment lately, and it’s often a little tricky to explain to a customer why we refuse. While bolts do have a legitimate place in certain very specific circumstances, the risk of irresponsible use and the continuing ‘murder of the impossible’ is just too great to allow bolt kits to be easily and readily available. Bolting should only ever be carried out by extremely experienced climbers who are educated in such matters, fully aware of the impact and permanence of their actions. We plead with anyone considering making a route ‘safer’ or ‘more accessible’ to take a moment to read this article by leading alpinist Colin Haley about Maestri’s compressor… Continue Reading...
